Easter Sunday in 2025 falls on 5th April. It’s the perfect time to gather with family and friends, enjoy some delicious seasonal treats, and celebrate the arrival of spring. At Crosstown, we’ve created a special Easter range to make your celebrations even sweeter.

It is considered the most important event in the Christian calendar, symbolising renewal, hope, and the triumph of life over death. Easter Sunday marks the end of Holy Week, which includes Good Friday- the day of Jesus’ crucifixion. Over the years, Easter has also become a time for family gatherings, springtime celebrations, and the exchange of sweet treats like chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, which represent themes of rebirth and new beginnings.
Hot cross buns have been eaten at Easter for centuries, with their origins dating back to the 12th century. The cross on top symbolises the crucifixion of Jesus, while the spices inside represent the spices used to embalm his body. In the past, they were believed to have protective powers and were even banned from being sold except on Good Friday, Christmas, or at burials during Queen Elizabeth I’s reign. Today, hot cross buns are a symbol of Easter’s religious significance and a comforting seasonal treat.
Simnel cake is a traditional fruitcake enjoyed during the Easter season, rich with symbolism and history. Its origins date back to medieval England, where it was initially baked to celebrate Mothering Sunday – the fourth Sunday of Lent. Simnel cake is made with a dense, spiced fruitcake base and is topped with a layer of marzipan, which adds a sweet almond flavour. The most distinctive feature of simnel cake is the eleven marzipan balls placed on top, representing the twelve apostles minus Judas, who betrayed Jesus. Some versions also include a twelfth ball to represent Jesus himself. The cake was historically seen as a treat to break the Lenten fast and was often gifted by daughters to their mothers on Mothering Sunday. Today, simnel cake remains a popular Easter dessert, combining rich flavors and deep religious symbolism in every bite.
