CROSSTOWN JOINS HARRODS’ FOOD HALL
We are excited to announce that Crosstown has officially joined the list of premium products available in the famous Harrods’ Food Hall. You can find our doughnuts there fresh every day of the week.
The partnership comes after Harrods asked us to be part of a refresh of its food hall in April, which they’ve spent two years revamping. The new space maintains the original 1920’s style, yet it showcases a fresh new flair and delicious selection of produce.
We’re happy to be serving up fresh with a selection of our classic and seasonal doughnut flavours, alongside other great brands like Charbonnel et Walker, Wolff Evans, White Lake Cheese, Haci Bekir Efendi and Pasta Evangelist.
The Crosstown doughnuts flavours currently available are:
- – Sri Lankan Cinnamon Sugar
- – Tongan Vanilla Bean Glaze
- – Chocolate Truffle
- – Sicilian Lemon Olive Oil
- – Matcha Tea
- – Passionfruit & Blueberry
- – Strawberry & English Sparkling Rosé
- – Sea Salt Caramel Banana Cream
Crosstown is dedicated to using the finest ingredients, sourced both locally (such as Gusbourne’s English sparkling rosé) and from the best locations on the globe (including Guittard chocolate from California and Nudo Sicilian lemon olive oil from Italy). Our team of in-house bakers craft the doughnuts every day, and they’re sold to hungry Londoners all over the city. Grab a Crosstown doughnut in Harrods, but if you find yourself far from Knightsbridge, check out one of our other locations or try our on-demand delivery services. Alongside Harrods, you can find Crosstown doughnuts on business and first class Air New Zealand flights from London to LA, and in select Wholefoods and Planet Organic stores across London.
A short history of Harrods
Harrods is one of the most iconic institutions in London. The store’s roots date back to 1849, when Charles Henry Harrod first opened a small grocery store. It has evolved significantly over the years; by 1880 it was a popular department store; in 1898 the store installed the first escalator in the UK; and today, the store encompasses more than 90,000 square metres.
Harrods’ popularity has only increased. On a typical day, 100,000 shoppers visit the extravagant department store, where they can find anything under the sun. Harrods has departments dedicated to everything from homeware to children’s toys and bespoke perfume to fine art. Of course, it also sells the most luxurious fashion houses, including Chanel and Bulgari, and its famous shoe heaven is a must-visit for any style maven.
While Harrods does have a pet supplies department, it no longer sells live animals. Until 2014, you could walk out of the famed department store with a dog or guinea pig in hand. And before 1976, when the Endangered Species Act was introduced, Harrods even sold exotic animals. Customers with enough cash could purchase pets including alligators, elephants and lions. People really did purchase these animals – Ronald Reagan famously bought an elephant, and Aussie backpackers bought a lion, who lived in a London flat with them. It’s no wonder the service got shut down, eh?
Harrods even has its own motto: ‘omnia omnibus ubique.’ The Latin phrase means ‘all things for all people, everywhere.’ With Crosstown doughnuts now on offer, Harrods is definitely living up to its motto.
